Finance terms

Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) — The annualized value of a customer’s recurring contract: what they pay you per year for the recurring portion, regardless of how often they’re billed. In HarborOS, ARR is calculated from your contracts rather than tracked separately. ARR waterfall (ARR movement) — The breakdown of how your ARR changed from one period to the next, split into new business, expansion, contraction, and churn. Sometimes called the bridge. Churn — Recurring revenue lost when a customer cancels or doesn’t renew. Measured as the ARR that left. Contraction — An existing customer reducing their contract — fewer seats, a lower tier, a smaller commitment — without leaving entirely. The opposite of expansion. Expansion — Additional recurring revenue from an existing customer, such as upsell, more seats, or a higher tier, during the term or at renewal. Gross Revenue Retention (GRR) — The share of recurring revenue you keep from your existing customers over a period, counting churn and contraction but not expansion. GRR can’t exceed 100%. Net Revenue Retention (NRR) — The same measure as GRR, but including expansion. A business with strong upsell can exceed 100%. Renewal — The point where a contract term ends and the customer decides whether to continue. HarborOS treats it as a step in the contract lifecycle. Variance — The difference between your plan and your actual results — for example, planned new and renewal ARR against what actually closed — and the explanation of what drove the gap.

Beacon — HarborOS’s built-in assistant. It answers questions and explains what sits behind a number by pointing to the contracts and records that produced it. See Beacon. A contract holds the terms of a customer agreement, and every number in the product is derived from it. See Contract is the atom. Lens — A way of describing how HarborOS’s screens relate to each other. Pipeline, Renewals, Compass, Portolan, and Reports aren’t separate tools; each is a different view, or lens, on the same contracts. See Lenses. Portolan — The part of HarborOS that saves point-in-time snapshots of your numbers, so you can look back at what you believed and when, and compare snapshots to see what changed. See Portolan.
